Podcast hosts and app makers: Let's make it easier for podcasters to surface donate/pay/membership links in our UIs with a standard semantic way to denote payment URLs in HTML show notes.

Does such a thing exist already in any useful HTML spec? Maybe an ?
    Aaron Parecki
Using rel=payment would be great! There's some research and documentation on that here https://indieweb.org/payment

I’ll be sticking with the IndieWeb and be looking at how to bridge that and Mastodon - there are tools for that and I much prefer to own my own presence online then to just rely on a less centralized version of Twitter. Enables much more plurality in the space

The fact that the federated timeline is essentially useless on single-user instances mean if you decide to run Mastodon in the most decentralised method possible, you miss out on a core feature of the software.

This is not really a new observation, I have mentioned before that joining the fediverse for the first time with a single user instance is playing on hard mode. You are missing the bootstrap that is the federated timeline.

@eay @_quinnO @waxpancake What's interesting, is that as I read Andy's thread, I could have as easily substituted @microdotblog for Mastodon & said much the same thing. While hooking your own site into it de novo may be a hurdle, for $5/mo the hosted version using your own domain is very simple.

I am attempting to upgrade my personal Mastodon instance from 2.0.0 to 2.1.x to 2.2.x to 2.3.x to the current version, 2.4.3. If this account disappears for a while, know that I'm in sysadmin hell

@danielpunkass Indieweb kids are saying that RSS isn't cool any more! What do I do?

    Aaron Parecki
RSS works just fine for blogging and podcasts! It's just that it doesn't support the more modern stuff like replies, photos/videos, checkins, etc, so we've moved on to alternate solutions for those!

I have a sort of Mastodon Stockholm Syndrome where this starts to feel normal:

    1. See a post (toot) in my app timeline, want to view all replies.
    2. Open post.
    3. Click "View in Browser" to see post on its home server, which includes all replies.
    4. See a reply I want to favorite. Copy link to that reply.
    5. Paste URL into search box on my home instance. This adds the post to my home instances database.
    6. Fave reply.

Like a lot of IndieWeb-related efforts, I applaud the idea behind it, but am skeptical it'll ever find a big, diverse audience. It's generally too complex for non-geeky folks to use with too little value. I care about owning my content and digital preservation—most people don't!
