It's odd what the web has decided are worthy to be native, usable, out of the box controls and what aren't. Like buttons, images, checkboxes, dropdowns... people should have those. But progress bars, tabs, segmented controls, real lists/grids, loading spinners... nobody needs those. They're even taking more native controls away, like the input/alert modals. I know I look at web development through a native developer lens, and wish the web was as good as native development, but it's still interesting to think about.

@aaronpk I am split here… Perhaps instead of throwing even more CSS and DOM hacks at the problem we should invest in portable native apps frameworks.
