Travelers: do you ever book with 3rd party engines? (Booking, Expedia, Orbitz, HotelTonight, etc.)

    If so, why?

For 10+yrs, I've ONLY booked on the hotel's website after numerous "we don't have your reservation," or "you can't do X w/ us b/c you booked through 3rd party."

Only when corporate policy forces me to. I regret it every time. I'm trying to convince them to drop it.

This time of year fresh salmon is at its peak and a lot of local places do a nice job preparing it.

Yes their interface sucks. Also there is no way of doing recurring bookings (e.g. Mon-Wed for the next 5 weeks), it takes ages to do this manually - it's much faster on the hotel website!

Chain restaurants?! Hell no. Only @caseyhen would dare go to them. I assume he's personally keeping them all in business.

We love our seafood here, and we have some excellent regional Asian cuisines represented all over the city. I find @EaterSeattle's recommendations to be pretty reliable. Don't drive through Pike Place; do skip Starbucks. Other than that, enjoy!

Thanks so much, Rand! I'll be there for the GeekWire Summit. Anyone traveling with me knows I do NOT do chain restaurants unless it's an emergency. Give me all of that local grub!

The @EaterSeattle lists are actually quite solid here. We def have some of the best Japanese in the country, and some terrific "Northwest-meets-X fusion" spots ala Revel, Joule, Kedai Makan, Ocho, etc.

Concur is the actual Devil. Also, I'll be in Seattle for a short conference. What's the can't-miss food? Or is there a certain type of cuisine I should look for that's a local specialty?

I always hated having to book travel through Concur when a) prices were often higher, b) couldn't exercise status benefits, c) harder to book with non-work companions, d) that fucking interface. I did a lot of "oops, sorry" when submitting T&E reports.
