YouTube should add a notification on all of your videos when you’re live on your channel

then when someone is casually watching one of your vids, they’ll see you’re live

if they’re not already subbed, they might become one after seeing the live

Here’s what’s important for web3 folks to know, from someone who was there: you were told a lie about Web 2.0. We had the same idealism, the same optimism, and equally good tech. The extractive financialization happened anyway, and you’re walking into the same trap.

I have found it fascinating watching a substantial number of web3/crypto pushers come to the dawning realization that they're not misunderstood, they're loathed. Realize that they had no idea the degree of ad spam, bots, and over-hyped shilling that everyone else is dealing with.

So the thing about keyboards is that they're fundamentally descended from typewriters, which had specific layout limitations, right? ones we don't have now, with digital keyboards. So I've now set us free, with a physics-designed keyboard!

For folks who responded to this, "Yes, but, in the future..." or "Yes, but, this particular project..." that's fine. Look, I am often wrong.

Right now, the entire crypto space is awash with money laundering, fraud, schemes, theft, and tax evasion. It is a mess.

Folks who love NFTs need to recognize that there are reasons not to love them, and not just the environmental impact. I see that you are really excited about this, but it seems kinda like no one makes money unless more people are always buying in.

We have a name for that.

I think the blockchain crowd is trying out a pivot to claim that their critics don't understand all of technology generally, rather than blockchains specifically?

I assure you, that is not the case. And once again, our skepticism is because we *do* understand.

It occurred to me that I should be buying the stock of the bank that my mortgage lender uses…

In general I’ve been trying to buy the stocks of the companies that my direct purchases go through and the products I use everyday.
    Aaron Parecki
I've been doing this thing where any time I buy a new Apple device I buy the equivalent amount of $AAPL stock too. It means each purchase hits my wallet twice as hard, making me reconsider whether I really need it, and eventually makes back some of that cost too.

    6. Independent ownership
Gardening is about claiming a small patch of the web for yourself, one you fully own and control
It shouldn't live on the servers of Twitter, Facebook, or Medium. None of these platforms are designed to help you slowly build and weave personal knowledge

People who care about decentralization, small web, users-controlling-their-data urgently need to come up with a catchy alternative name for that (or go with a good existing one - I like IndieWeb personally) - because web3 is indistinguishable from blockchain grift at this point

Web 3.0 and web3 have been so diluted for so long that it's basically meaningless at this point. https://indieweb.org/web3
