Oregonlive headline: Travelers slow to return to downtown Portland hotels amid pandemic; concerns linger over city’s reputation

Actual story: We are in a pandemic. People aren't coming here because there is a pandemic. We are actually on par are better off than most other cities in regards to tourism. One manager at a hotel has a single anecdote about how a tourist said she was scared because homeless people existed.

The temperature of the water is the same, either way. Your method is the more climate-friendly and energy-saving.

Looks like a “true simmer” is actually lower in temperature. What I’ve been calling a kind of simmer for years is really a kind of low boil.

I think this old physics major has become the punchline of the “imagine a spherical cow” joke .
    Aaron Parecki
My main argument is that you can't cook the pasta faster even if the water is boiling harder, because water can't get hotter than boiling.

I’ve felt fine for almost hours and within the past hour I started feeling really lousy. Feel like everything in my head is swelling. Throat, sinuses, muscles around my head. Weird pressure behind my eyes, dizziness. Just came out of nowhere. I thought I was in the clear. Oh well. Worth it.

    Aaron Parecki
For me it ended just as suddenly as it began! Just take it easy and don’t plan on getting much done for the next 24 hours. Totally worth it.

What have I missed? I'm guessing it's likely a bunch of 'long tail use cases' e.g. turning off water main for a broken pipe.

I'm not against smart homes! Just saying we need to drill down a bit and find better, more pragmatic use cases.
    Aaron Parecki
Probably my favorite "smart home" feature is the bed is tied into the whole system so the lights come on and off contextually. It sounds simple but it's so nice. I talk more about it here https://aaronparecki.com/2019/11/07/1/home-automation

Wow its crazy how much your taste for color grading changes over time.

Heres a sample with 6 months difference between the two.

Someone needs to tell me how to effectively get the table in the shot like that. How close is the camera to the surface of the desk? Are you looking down at the camera in these?

The old school machinist in me feels a little bit of joy every time I add a feature to a resin-printable design that would be impossible to produce on a mill or lathe.

    Aaron Parecki
I'm gonna have to experiment with resin printing next. So far I've been learning the limits of FDM

Monday around 1pm Pacific I’ll go live while editing. I think this will work; sharing my 6K retina screen over a 4K stream so you should be able to see perfect detail. Potentially there will be commentary from the peanut gallery. Sub now so you don’t miss
