    many of the laser-based pm sensor packages, such as novapm, treat high humidity as pm material. I don't know if steam works or not, but you'd need to steam the place up and then dehumidify for an accurate reading. Steam might also humidify the place which helps sinuses. idk

    It's the opposite, the sensor reads a room full of fried oil as a huge spike but isn't reacting to this steam at all

      oh that's because burning oil is a huge spike, and it's also ramping the co2 in your house as well
