You tried accessing from another network? Cool! Can’t you though set the IP to include the port, something like 192.1.1.1:9910 — would the ATEM software accept that?
    Aaron Parecki
Yeah I just accessed my studio ATEM from home over the internet. The problem is the ATEM Software Control doesn't let you enter a port number, so your router can only forward port 9910 to one device on your network. I still wouldn't do this because the lack of authentication.

You need something on the other end. Z3 will work

Oh wait, I need one on the other end as well? Sheesh. Thought I could create a secure address for the remote director to tap into without them needing additional hardware. 🤦‍♂️

You just need 2 MXs and you're set!

Saw that. Also turns out I own a Meraki MX64. Long story. Could probably figure that out!

I answered in the BMD forum but we also use VPN for remote control of ATEMs (and connected cameras).

Nice. Maybe we can talk offline about that this week. Because you’re definitely already over my head 😂

if you just need a remote computer to control your studio ATEM, then running a VPN server in your studio and getting the client computer on your VPN will work great. That's a lot less involved than the full solution he was talking about.

So if set up a VPN server, which is what @alexlindsay was saying (I think) in my post on the Blackmagic forum.

Dang. I wonder… for security, could you have an IP address that forwards to your IP:port so that you don’t have to give out your real IP address? Like forwarding a URL?

Yeah IP:port is a pretty typical convention but there's nothing magical about it and the software has to be able to recognize it. If you try typing ":" into the ATEM Software it just doesn't let you type the ":"

I see. Am I correct though that the format would be IP:port? And the ATEM just won’t let you type that in? (At home, can’t access system now to test myself)
