An important note: because the mural was finished after today's window for satellite imagery collection, what you see right now is an approximation. The next collection window is tomorrow, and, clouds permitting, we'll be collecting & updating then.

I was gonna say, this looks photoshopped. Cool idea for pushing out imagery updates so fast tho!

Slippery slope arguments are a slippery slope

There are definitely costs to doing this. We just feel they’re worth it.

"Approximation of the ground truth" seems slippery. This feels like its getting way too close to the line just to get a 24 hour advance on new imagery. I'm really uncomfortable with the arbitrariness of it. (And I loved the 16th st paint job.)

What would happen is we would say no. Bear in mind this is an approximation of the ground truth, which is well-documented and not in dispute. We also expect to be able to replace it with sensor data very soon.

The solidarity is great but I’m really uncomfortable with photoshopping imagery, beyond the usual compositing etc. You did a great job getting it on the map, this feels unnecessary and a bad precedent. What happens when someone asks you to fix up, eg, an inauguration crowd?

Yeah, that’s intentional. We didn’t want people to be confused. Tried to balance that with representing the mural as well as we could.
