      Woollybear (caterpillars) are pretty great. They don’t hibernate so much as freeze solid and live up to 14 years!

      Black Widows and mantises (manti?) and stuff? Don't need no man - they're better off as food.
      Or I don't know about "self-sufficient" among bugs in general, but a tardigrade seems pretty tough (as in survive apocalypse / whatever)
