Well that was unsettling. Was harshly woken up by the sound of crackling and my lights flickering, then a pop and the apartment went dark. In a half-awake stupor I was confused why one of my lights was still working. Took me a while to realize it was only the circuit for my outlets that had tripped.

I tried to reset the breaker, but it snapped again immediately after I turned it back on. So my thought is something on the circuit has shorted, or I've just overloaded that circuit.

Either way, I can'e believe they built a brand new building and put all the plugs in this apartment on a single 15-amp circuit. Seems like it wouldn't have been that much harder to at least split it into two!

Are you in a building with multiple apartments? It sounds like any one of them could be a fire hazard.

hardly sounds like code construction. It wouldn't hurt to look into it further.
